The Nation Media Group has sacked NTV news anchor Ken Mijungu, barely a week after announcing retrenchment.

In a tweet, Mijungu announced his exit, attributing it to the ongoing lay-offs at the media house.

“The axe fell  NTV newsroom and I was on its way. 7 years in those corridors summed up in a two page letter of termination. We live to fight another day. Thanks to God, He remains the greatest, thank you  @ntvkenya for the opportunity and thank you for always staying tuned, ” the journalist said.

However, there has been reports that the journalist was shown the door after doing the Babu Owino and DJ Evolve story, that according to professionals was biased and seemed skewed.

Ken Mijungu presented the 9 pm bulletin, AMLive, as well as Side Bar show in which he hosted politician.

Others who were shown the door include Nation Newspaper Division Managing Director Francis Munywoki, partnerships & projects manager and long-serving education editor David Aduda, Business Daily Managing Editor Ng’ang’a Mbugua and Daily Nation News Editor Francis Wanyonyi Wambilianga.

Also fired include editions editor Mark Agutu, agriculture editor Julius Sigei, Gabriel Chege of IT, Veronica Chirchir (HR), output editor Joe Mbuthia, Martin Mwangi (Deputy Chief Sub Editor), Revise Editor Henry Gekonde, Nancy Ogutu, Peter Choge and Momanyi Maosa from the online department.
