Sonko Comes Clean on Drink Spiking Incident

Former Nairobi Governor, Mike Sonko, has distanced himself and Club Volume from reports doing rounds on social media that a reveller lost Ksh596,000 after a lady he had met at the facility spiked his drink.

In a statement, Sonko, who is the owner of the popular club located in Mombasa City, noted that the story is false and was meant to tarnish the image of his establishment.

The former Nairobi County boss explained that the incident did not occur at his club, adding that Club Volume has put in tough security measures to ensure its customers are safe.”We have a trained, disciplined, and reliable security team that consists of both men and women who thoroughly search and screen customers using modern gadgets before they are allowed into the club.

“The club is also installed with 24/7 surveillance cameras that help us monitor the security of all our customers around the club,” he explained.

Further, Sonko noted that the man only lost Ksh17,000, and not Ksh596,000 as reported by a section of the media, after giving his  PIN to the woman in question

He, however, stated that the victim did not lose the money at Club Volume but at the apartment where he took the lady after leaving the club.

According to Sonko, the man was able to identify the lady who robbed him after reviewing CCTV footage from the club.

“We’ve been able to obtain his M-PESA statement and it confirms the amount of money transferred by the lady after he willingly gave her the pin was Ksh17,000 and not the figure quoted Ksh596,000 on social media.

“After reviewing the CCTV footage, he has been able to identify the lady who afterwards robbed him. The client who fell victim to the act has also confirmed that the incident never happened in our club but in Jomvu where he’d gone to have more fun with the lady who later invited fellow lady friends to the suite,” he explained.

Sonko urged guests at the club to exercise caution with the people that they meet at the establishment, adding that while the club is liable for ensuring security for its customers, it always encourages personal responsibility in self-conduct.
